I used to study by trial and error.
I would try a study technique and it’d either work or not. I’d get good results or bad results, I’d learn from it, then I would go back and try something else.
To be honest… IT SUCKED
There are a few reasons why studying this way was unsuccessful:
1. My results weren’t consistent
2. I didn’t have a repeatable strategy that I could use
3. It was really, really stressful

Reverse Engineering
Tony Robbins who is an amazing personal development guru has a great quote:
“Success leaves clues”
You can either study by trial and error and struggle, or you can find someone who’s been there and done it. You can reverse engineer their process, and learn from it!
Studying the approach of others can be a lot more helpful than studying by trial and error. This is because:
- They’ve been where you want to go, they’ve done what you want to do and you can reverse engineer their approach, and learn from it!
- It enables you to fast track the process, getting you where you want to go a lot easier than if you were to do it on your own.
Find a Mentor
The key to reverse engineering is to try and find a mentor.
This is what I did in my own life. I saw the mentors around me in my life and followed their example.
When I was in year 12 my soccer coach at the time was a fifth year Law student, he had done extremely well and I was able to model him and actually reverse engineer his process.
This is the point:
You can either study by trial and error and struggle. Or you can find someone whos been there and achieved that success you’re striving for.
This enables you to get to where you want to go, so much quicker than doing it on your own.
